Explanation / Answer

1. The vascular plants include plants like tracheophytes which have a well developed vascular system characterised by presence of xylem and phloem. The vascular plants are thought to evolve around 400 million years ago which dates back to the middle of the Silurian period.

This timeline was uncovered with the help of various evidences such as fossils which date back to the silurian period. The plant fossils of the vascular plants were found embedded on rocks roughly 425 million years ago. One of the examples of the earliest fossil includes Aglaophyton which was found to contain specialised conducting cells and hence was referred to as the earliest member of the vascular plants. They were referred to as prototracheophytes.
