Question
A person is standing in an elevator on a scale and it reads 600N when the elevator moves up at a constant speed. When it begins to slow and stop the scale reads 540N momentarily. What is the acceleration of the elevator at that moment?Explanation / Answer
hey I cannot draw Diagram here but am gonna try my best to explain it to you When elevator moves with constant speed It experiences only gravitational force=Mg which is downwards force Mg=600 =>M=60kg Now as it retards In frame of elevator ,It experience an upward pseudo force of magnitude Ma total force=weight=M(g-a)=540 60*(10-a)=540 a=1m/s^2 Hope yo can draw the diagram by yourself as Mg acts downwards,Ma pseudo force acts upwards, and Normal force which is equal to weight of person=540
