Question

in a population of people where the eye color gene can be determined by 4 alleles B(brown)-0.102631 , b(blue)-0.269870, h(hazel) -0.362110, g(green) -0.256310. The gene for eye shape can be determined by 3 alleles A (almond)- 0.368990 m(monoloid) 0.356980 h(hooded) 0.236980. The gene for pupil size can be determined by 2 alleles I(large pupils) 0.489620 and ismal pupils)-0.500120. Assume Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, what is the frequency of getting Blue eyes, that are almond shaped with large pupils? (p2 + 2pq + q2 + 2pr + 2ar + r2 = 1

Explanation / Answer

Solution :

let p = frequency of blue eye = 0.269870

let q = frequency of almond shape eye = 0.368990

let r = frequency of large pupil eye = 0.489620

now at Hardy-Weinberg equlibrium the values satisfy this equation => p2 + 2pq + q2 + 2pr + 2qr + r2 = 1

so for blue eye + almond shaped = 2pq

and for blue eye + large pupil = 2pr

therefore for blue eye + almond shaped + large pupil = 2pq + 2pr

                                                                                    =2*0.269870*0.368990 + 2*0.269870*0.489620

                                                                                    =0.463426162 (answer)
