1. Epigenome is the chemical changes to the DNA and histone proteins of an organism which can be passed down from one generation to the next. Changes to the DNA and histone proteins can result in changes to the structure of chromatin and to the function of the genome. The genome in a way that tells it what to do, where to do it and when to do it. Differences in the types and amounts of proteins determine how cells look, grow and act; the epigenome influences which genes are active (proteins produced) in a particular cell. Therefore, the epigenome is made up of chemical compounds and proteins that can attach to DNA, modify its function and direct turning genes on or off. The epigenome is the set of chemical modifications to the DNA and DNA-associated proteins in the cell, which alter gene expression, and are heritable.

There are some factors that can change epigenome such as lifestyle and environmental factors.
