Question

1.How would the zygote appear if two mutant yeast cells of opposite mating types were crossed

(a crossed to an a ) and the mutations were allelic? Would the Zygote be Normal or Mutant or something new. Give a detailed explanation of your answer.

2. How would the zygote appear if two mutant yeast cells of opposite mating types were crossed

(a crossed to an a ) and the mutations were in different genes? Would the Zygote be Normal or Mutant or something new. Give a detailed explanation of your answer.

3.Give three similarities between Benzers experiments and the two questions above.

4.How can you make a cross in diploids to determine if two genes were allelic or non-allelic?

What results would you anticipate?

Explanation / Answer

if u post more than 1 ques as per chegg guidelines,i have to answer only one question

ques 4:

Two true-breeding populations for the trait are taken means the offspring and parents have the same phenotype. hence. AA offspring is given by AA x AA.
Then Mendelian crosses can be calculated

if all offspring are AB and we cross A and B then:

AB having A phenotype - if A dominant over B, then it can be allelic and autosomal, similarly reverse with B dominant.

AB have intermediate phenotype -it can be allelic incomplete or co dominance
there are different phenotypes in males and females - can be X linked .
now we get A and B phenotypes, genes are different, non-allelic AA offspring.
