Question

A magnetic field of magnitude B=46T points at an angle =35 from the normal of a circular loop of radius R=10.5mm as shown below. The loop has N=130 turns.

(b) If the magnitude of the magnetic field shown in the figure above is increasing with time, what direction of current will be induced in the N-turn coil of wire? EXPLAIN REASONING

(c) The radius of the N-turn coil in the figure above is decreasing steadily with time; the magnetic field is held constant. What direction of current will be induced in the coil of wire? EXPLAIN REASONING

Explanation / Answer

a) flux = BA cos theta = 46u * pi*(10.5e-3)^2 cos 35 = 1.3e-8 Wb b) if the magnitude is increasing, the direction of induced current will be opposite. Therefore, the direction of the induced current will be clockwise. v) If the radius is decreasing, this means that the magnetic field is also decreasing. The direction of the current will be the same. Therefore, the direction of the induced current will be counter-clockwise.
