Question
Problerm 6. Most of the feathers of erminette fowl are light-colored, with an occasional black one, giving a flecked appearance. A cross of two erwioettes produced a total of 48 progeny, consisting of 22 erminettes, 14 blacks, and 1:2 pure whites. What genetic phenomenon explains the erminette pattern? According to your hypothesis, indicate the genotvpesof: Exminettes blacks pure whites Write down the genotypic proportions observed for the offspring in the previous cross According to your hypothesis, indicate the parent genotypes and write down the genotypic and the phenotypic proportions expected in the offspring of all crosses between parents of different types.Explanation / Answer
Hi,
The ermineter is light colored feather with occasional black ones. it may be a heterozygote. so the black and pure white can be other homozygous phenotypes. When the two erminettes are crossed we ot 22 erminettes, 14 black, 12 pure white.
so assuming, BB causes black; bb causes white; Bb causes erminetter.
Bb x Bb
we can get
BB , Bb,bB and bb
so ration of BB:Bb:bb = 1:2:1
the numbers we got in the question 14:22:12 are also close to 1:2:1
