Question
Gold, which has a mass of 19.32 g for each cubic centimeter of volume, is the most ductile metal and can be pressed into a thin leaf or drawn out into a long fiber.(a) If a sample of gold, with a mass of 44.21 g, is pressed into a leaf of 4.000 µm thickness, what is the area of the leaf?
1 m2
(b) If, instead, the gold is drawn out into a cylindrical fiber of radius 1.500 µm, what is the length of the fiber?
I already know from part A that V=2.29 x 10^-6 and Area= 0.5725. I'm having trouble with part b.
Explanation / Answer
from part A, V = 2.29 x 10-6 m3
V = r2L, where r = 1.500*10-6 m
the length L = V/(r2) = 3.24*105 m
