Question
The problem asks that given that the voltage source "SUPPLIES" 24 W of power, find the current i...
I find that the current i is -2A, because the circuit is wired "passively" based on what's drawn in the circuit, and since it says the voltage source is "SUPPLYING" power, that means the current needs to flow in the opposite the direction as indicated... Is that my understanding?
Because CHEGG answers has the current as +2A, which does not make sense, because that would mean the direction of the current in the circuit is correct, but then the voltage source would be "ABSORBING" power, not "SUPPLYING" power...
please help me understand!
Explanation / Answer
The direction of current shown is opposite. Hence the answer -2 is correct.
If we assume battery to be correctly placed, then current flowing through R1 is 12/R1 downward which is equal to 2A + 3A (from the current source).
