5. Which of the following statements are TRUE about immune cells? a. Antigen-loaded dendritic cells (DCs) enter the lymph node (LN) via the blood vessels while naive T cells enter via the afferent lymphatics. b. Both antigen-loaded DCs and naive T cells enter LN via blood vessels. c Antigen-loaded DCs enter LN via afferent lymphatics while naive T cells enter via blood vessels. d. Both antigen-loaded DCs and naive T cells enter LN via the afferent lymphatics e. The trafficking of antigen-loaded DCs and naive T cells within LN is random. 6. The main function of mast cells is to: a. phagocytize bacteria. b. activate macrophages. c. kill virally-infected cells. d. stimulate T cell responses. e. recruit blood-borne effector cells and increase blood vessel permeability.Explanation / Answer
Answer to question no 5
C. Antigen loaded DCs enter LN via afferent lymphatics while naive T cells enter via blood vessels.
Immune cells migrate to lymph node for immune response. It is a highly regulated process.
Antigen loaded DC enters the lymph node from the tissues via the afferent lymphatics and the naive T cells enters lymph node from the blood.
Dendritic cells acquire, process the antigen and expresses stimulatory molecule that trigger naive T cell activation. Dendritic cells are found in contact with the external environment i.e skin, inner lining of nose, lungs, stomach and intestine. Once attached to the antigen they are activated and migrated towards the lymph node to initiate adaptive immune response through T and B cells.
