Question
an electron move through a uniform electric field E= (2.80i+4.60j) V/m and a uniform magnetic field B=0.400k T. Determine the acceleration of the electron when it has a velocity v=8.0i m/s. things to solve for: Ax=____?____m/s^2, Ay=____?____m/s^2, Az=____?____ m/s^2 so far i have solved Ax= -4.918 *10^11 m/s^2, and Az= 0 m/s^2. the one i can't get right is Ay. the answers i've used but were wrong were -1.79*10^11 and -8.079*10^11.Explanation / Answer
Force F = e*( E + vXB) = (2.80i+4.60j + 8 i x 0.4 k ) = 2.80i+4.60j - 3.2j = e*(2.8 i + 1.4 j )m/s^2 => A = F/m = 4.81 *10^11 i + 2.24 * 10^12 j m/s^2 so Ax = 4.81 *10^11 m/s^2 Ay = 2.24 * 10^12 m/s^2 Az = 0 cheers :)
