Question
Jumper cables are connected from a fresh battery in one car to charge a dead battery in another car. The figure below shows the circuit diagram for this situation. Wh the cables are connected, the ignition switch of the car with the dead battery is closed and the starter is activated to start the engine. (Let R-1.25 and A,-0.0 0.01011 R i Starter Live battery batt Dead Ignition switch (a) Determine the current in the starter 645 Your response differs from the correct answer by more than 10%. Double check your calculations. A downward (b) Determine the current in the dead battery 4.644 Your response differs from the correct answer by more than 100%. A upward e) is the dead battery being charged while the starter is operating? Yes O No There is not enough information. Need Help?Explanation / Answer
Given
circvuit with R = 1.25 ohm , Rs = 0.09 ohm
the current from the live battery is
V = I*R ==> I = V/R
I1 = 12/0.01 = 1200 A
and current through the dead battery is
I2 = 12/1.25 A = 9.6 A
by symmetry the currens I1,I2 reaches the point node so that the current through Rs is
I = I1+I2 = 1200 +9.6 = 1209.6 A
b) current in the dead battery is I2 = 9.6 A
c) dead battery does not charge while the starter is opening ( p.d is same)
