PLEASE ANSWER THE 4 QUESTIONS
THANK YOU
[5 pts] When delineating a watershed, the engineer must consider that (Select all that apply) the political boundaries of counties and cities. ) the watershed limit can cross as many streams as the engineer wants. based on a DEM. the watershed represents the drainage area to a given point of interest. the D8 is a common method used in GIS to support the identification of flow direction [5 pts] Regarding the effects of urbanization on a watershed, it is corect to affirm that: (Select all that apply): one of the potential impacts of wrbanization on runoff is the increased peak flow and longer times of concentration. C) detention ponds are used to reduce peak flow by storing rumoff volume and releasing this volume over longer periods of time ) low impact strategies based on infiltration are generally more efficient on soils type D rather than type A. (rain gardens are a type of low impact strategies used to increase at-site infiltration, reducing overall runof. [5 pts] The following are major challenges facing water resources engineers today (Select all that apply): provide clean water to the world population. ()prevent flood hazards to became disasters. C)manage water resources efficiently in dry areas to support multiple users. provide cost-efficient, well designed solutions for the increasing urban infrastructure. [5 pts] Based on our traditional water resources engineering methods, it is true to say that: (Select all that apply): the Unit Hydrograph represents the response of the watershed for 1 inch of rainfall for a the Hydrologic Modeling System (HMS) can be used to simulate rainfall-runof in a HMS model calibration consists of fine-tuning equation parameters such as CN and lag given duration. ( the Rational Method is used to calculate peak flow in small watersheds watershed and calculate peak flows for engineering design. the Horton method provides a useful and simple way to calculate evapotranspiration. ( time to adjust the model numoff to measured flow given a known precipitation event.Explanation / Answer
1. In this question last two options will be correct
Because delinearing included finding the boundaries of watershed and the area of watershed , flow pattern and direction of watershe'd. By using the DEM( digital elevation model) one can find out the topography condition in flow direction I.e is there any flat area or depression or any obstruction caused to discontinuity of flow between upstream and don't stream. All this flow direction will be analysed by D8 method in GPS.
2. In this question option one is correct
Urbanization commonly increase the storm runoff response to precipitation. Because greater peaks are generated due to impervious surfaces. But time of concentration will also increase, because drainage direction and length may increase. Time of concentration is nothing but time taken by water to reach outlet point of watershed.
3.in this question, as of my knowledge first 3 options are correct
Because now a days, providing clean water to the on growing population is one of the major challenge in order to prevent spreading of deceases due to water
And also construction of hydraulic structures to store the flood water for future use and to protect from hazardous caused due to floods and failure of hydraulic structures.
Storing of water collected from rain and floods in dry areas to use the water for many purpose like irrigation, domestic and drinking water. Major and mostly facing problem is water scarcity in dry areas, in order resolve this problem we have to store and effectively use the available water resources.
4. As of my knowledge second options is correct
Rational method is simple technique for estimating a design discharge from a small watershed.
