if we are comparing more than 3 means then ANOVA is appropriate.

Doing seperate t test inflates Type 1 Error rate and is not recommeneded.

An ANOVA controls the overall error by testing all group means against each other at once,so your alpha remains,at for instance 0.05.

So,ANOVA used to test the differences among several means without increasing the type 1 error rate.
