Question

#1. Three protons are arranged as shown. Each charge is 2.00 nm from the origin. Find the magnitude & direction of theE-Field)at the origin (a) , as E: F 2ooxur'm (I.rxorxio-))/2.3o this eme "X??? (b) Find thePotentialatthe origin. PE"(tMxubrtnaarursu uur) X) 2 2. (a) Find the magnitude & direction of the Coulomb force exerted by the configuration (from problem #1) on an proton placed at the origi PE-East ??? (b) Find the change in Potential Energy of the system now that the proton is added. Isxo (3.arxI0 at chore to pest APE t2.3xIOJ

Explanation / Answer

I am assuming the traiangle formed by protons to be equilateral

1.

Electric field due to proton placed on x axis at origin is equal and opposite hence they cancel each other, now the net electric field is only given by the proton placed on y axis

E= kq/r^2 = 9*10^9* 1.6*10^-19/(3*10^-18)

= 4.8*10^8 N/C, directed to -y axis

b. Potential at origin

V= Ed= 4.8*10^8* 10^-9* sqrt(3)= 0.8314 V
