Question

Q7 If you were to move the north pole of a bar magnet into the front of your coil, what is the direction of the induced current when viewed from the front? To reach your conclusion, answer each of the following: Motion of the magnet as viewed from above. The arrows by the magnet indicate the direction in which the magnet moves, not necessarily the direction of B a. Is the flux within the coil increasing, decreasing, or remaining constant? b. What is the direction of Bo within the coil? Done as an example to clarify perspective. "From the front" see p. 9-4 (since B lines point away from "N") means looking into the coil; c. What is the direction Bind within the coil? d. What is the direction of lind in the coil, when viewed from the front? e. Which way will the needle deflect?

Explanation / Answer

Q7 a) The flux will increase in the coil.

b)The direction of the external magnetic field is into the coil.

c)Since the coil has north pole approaching towards it thus according to Lenz's law it will form north pole thus induced magnetic field will be out of the coil when seen from the front.

d) The direction of induced current is such that the face facing the bar magnet is north, thus current will be anticlockwise.
