Question

Figure 7-40 is a schematic diagram of an aircraft elevator control system. The input to the

system is the deflection angle 8 of the control lever, and the output is the elevator angle

q,. Assume that angles 8 and q, are relatively small. Show that, for each angle 8 of the controllever,

there is a corresponding (steady-state) elevator angle q,.

Figure 7-40 is a schematic diagram of an aircraft elevator control system. The input to the system is the deflection angle 8 of the control lever, and the output is the elevator angle q,. Assume that angles 8 and q, are relatively small. Show that, for each angle 8 of the controllever, there is a corresponding (steady-state) elevator angle q,.

Explanation / Answer

let the points in the longest lever be named A, B and C.

When the lever moves by angle 8, the dispacement of point A is l8.

At the moment A is moved to the right C acts as a fixed point.Therefore the displacement in B is l8*b/(a+b)

As the power piston moves to right, the displacement in B due to motion of power piston=ya/(a+b)

Net displacement(x)=l8*b/(a+b)+ya/(a+b)............(1)

For power piston movement y, let correponding change in elevator angle is l2q

y=l2q

Substituting in equatuion 1

x=l8*b/(a+b)+((l2*q)*a/(a+b))

Since, the equation is linear in 8 and q. This proves that for every angle of controller there is a corresponding elevator angle q.
