Question
1) what are the subscrpts for ?
2) what is the difference between Izz and Ixx ?
3) what is the difference between Iz'z' and Izz?
4) in the last line of the problem 17.4 in the picture below, why is d= y bar or 1.444ft, I was taught that d was equal to the distance between the (distance from the axis of rotation and centroid of that particular shape) and the ( sum of y bar divided by the sum of the area of the entire assembly) so in this case it would be (1.444) - (y bar of the part )
5) what do they mean that the moment of inertia is about an axis perpendicular to the page, wouldnt it be along the x axis since there is a pin connection?
Explanation / Answer
1. I dont really understand this question. Subscribts of A?
2. The difference between IXX and IZZ is IXX indicates moment of inertia bout x-axis, and IZZ is the moment of inertial about the plane IZZ ( Generally considered perpendicular to the paper/ ur desktop screen).
3.Didnt understant ur question.
4. What you said is correct y bar is distance between from the acis of rotation and centrodif of that particular shape. In the problem (see figure). In the problem 1.444 is correct .
5. Axis perpendiclar to plane means,Let us consider xy plane, x-axis horizontal and y axis vertical to the plane of paper, then with respect to that plane of paper consider the axis pependicular(mutually) generally z axis.
