Question
A ramjet, shown below, with inlet aieaA0 and exit area Ae is fixed on a test stand. The ambient density, pressure, and temperature are rhoinfinity, pinfinity and Tinfinity respectively. The pressure and temperature at the exit are rhoe, pe and Te respectively. The properties at the inlet and exit can be assumed uniform over A0 and Ae. The engine flies at speed Uinfinity and has exit velocity Ue. The mass flow of fuel into the engine is small and can be neglected. (Note: there are no moving parts.) Derive an expression for the thrust of the engine (total force in the flight direction), F, in terms of the free stream and exit conditions. Derive an expression for the specific impulse (Isp) of the engine, which is the thrust per unit mass flow at the inlet (F/mdot0). If the result of (a) is not available express your answer in terms of F.Explanation / Answer
