Question
1. Two resistors R1 = 5.6 k and R2 = 3.3 k are to be connected in series. Calculate the series equivalent resistance Rs.
2. The same two resistors are reconnected in parallel. Calculate the parallel equivalent resistance Rp.
3. If these two resistors R1 and R2 have a 5% tolerance, use the color code to find the appropriate color bands for the resistance and tolerance.
Note: 5% tolerance is GOLD
I found that Rs = 8.9 k and Rp = 2.08 k. I am not sure how to solve for the third step. I know the concept
1st band 1st digit - 2nd band 2nd digit - third band multiplier - fourth tolerance
Explanation / Answer
R1 = 5.6k Gold = 5% R1 = (5.6k) - (5.6k * 0.05) = 5.6k -280 5320 = 5.6k + 280 = 5880 R2 = 3.3k - (3.3k * 0.05) = 3.3k - 165= 3299.95 = 3.3k + 165 = 3299.95
