Question

The bent rod is supported at A, B, and Cby smooth journal bearings. Determine the magnitude ofF2 which will cause the reactionCy at the bearing C to beequal to zero. The bearings are in proper alignment and exertonly force reactions on the rod. Set F1 = 550 lb. Can someone solve this for me with my numbers with a speciific answer, ive been working on this problem all night and I cant get it, and I have 1 try left. Please help!

Explanation / Answer

F1 = -550Cos45 j - 550Sin45 k = -388.9 j - 388.9 k

F2 = F2*Cos45Sin30 i + F2*Cos45Cos30 j - F2*Sin45 k

F2 = 0.3536*F2 i + 0.6124*F2 j - 0.7071*F2 k

Sigma Fx = 0 yields, Ax + Bx + 0.3536F2 = 0

Sigma Fy = 0 yields, Ay + 0.6124*F2 - 388.9 = 0

Sigma Fz = 0 yields, Bz + Cz - 0.7071*F2 - 388.9 = 0

Sigma Mx = 0 yields, -Bz*3 - Ay*4 + 388.9*5 + 388.9*5 = 0

Sigma My = 0 yields, Cz*5 + Ax*4 = 0

Sigma Mz = 0 yields, Ax*5 + Bx*3 = 0

Solving these 6 eqns, we get F2 = 1235.126 lb
