Question
A tank is divided into two parts by a partition. The volume of the tank is unknown. One side of the tank is evacuated and other side contains 0.03 m3 (meters cubed) of refrigerant-134a that is a saturated liquid at 1.2 MPa. The partition is now removed, and the refrigerant fills the entire tank. If the final state of the refrigerant is 303 K and 400 kPa, determine the volume of the tank.
**Please explain your steps in details
A tank is divided into two parts by a partition. The volume of the tank is unknown. One side of the tank is evacuated and other side contains 0.03 m3 (meters cubed) of refrigerant-134a that is a saturated liquid at 1.2 MPa. The partition is now removed, and the refrigerant fills the entire tank. If the final state of the refrigerant is 303 K and 400 kPa, determine the volume of the tank.Explanation / Answer
given initial conditions of refrigerant(r)
Pi=1.2Mpa(saturated liquid)
volume (Vi)=.03m3
from property table
specific volume (vi)=vf (since saturated liquid)=.000893m3/kg
so mass of r=volume/sp.volume=33.59kg
now given final conditions are
Pf=400kpa,Tf=303k
so it is superheated vapour at this condition
from property table
sp.volume(vf)=.05662m3/kg
so total volume=m(vf)=.05662*33.59=1.9m3 (which is volume of the tank)
