Question

A mass of gas at an initial pressure of 28 bar and with aninternel energy of 1500 kj is contained in well insulated cylinderof volume 0.06 m3 .the gas is allowed to expand behind apiston untill its interne energy is 1400 kj the law of expansion isPV2=constant calculute i)the work done ii)the final volume iii)the final pressure Answers(-100KJ,0.148m3,4.59 bar) A mass of gas at an initial pressure of 28 bar and with aninternel energy of 1500 kj is contained in well insulated cylinderof volume 0.06 m3 .the gas is allowed to expand behind apiston untill its interne energy is 1400 kj the law of expansion isPV2=constant calculute i)the work done ii)the final volume iii)the final pressure Answers(-100KJ,0.148m3,4.59 bar)

Explanation / Answer

Okay for work: u2 - u1 = Q - W Insulated --> Q = 0 so, W = u2 - u1 = 1400 - 1500 = -100 KJ ( Work done on the system) W = ( P2V2 - P1V1) /(1-n) , ( I think you have to be given one more given! ) I assumed that the pressure is constant after the expansion -->v2 = 100/ 2800 + 0.06 = 0.1 m3 p2 = p1 (v1/v2) ----> P2
