Question

I am studying this on my own and cannot figure out where thetempoerature comes into play in this question: A steam turbine receives steam with a flow of 15kg/s  and experiences a heat loss of 14 KJ(q). Using the properties below, find the power:                                                                               IN                     OUT Pressure   (p)                                                            6205Kpa            9.859Kpa Temperature (T)                                                        811.1deg K        318.8 degK Velocity  (vel)                                                              3048m/s             274.3m/s Specific InternalEnergy (u)                                        3150.4KJ/kg      2211.8 KJ/kg I was thinking I would use the Steady flow equation: and to find the enthalpy, I could use h=u+pv for both the INand the OUT. From there, I could find the power using the mass flow and myanswer for w (work). But the temperature does not come intoplay at all. Is it just a trick question. I know Icould find "h" from the pressure and temperature, but then I wouldnot be using the specific volume. Am I on the right track atall? Thank you very much!!! (for any help you can giveme........................

Explanation / Answer

the calculated values of enthalpy at in and out of the turbineare h1=u1+p1v1=3186.320kj/kg h2=u2+p2v2=2342.9247kj/kg with the help of steam tables ,    we can calculate h1, but for h2 the givenproperties are very small to calculate and it is a bitdifficult. so go with h=u+pv
