slove this question by using this formula sheet

P2: A hockey player is standing on his skates on a frozen pond when an opposing player, moving with a uniform speed of 4.0 m/s, skates by with the puck. After 2.00 s, the first player makes up his mind to chase his opponent. If he accelerates uniformly at 0.30 m/s2 determine each of the following. (a) How long does it take him to catch his opponent? (Assume the player with the puck remains in motion at constant speed.) (b) How far has he traveled in that time?

Explanation / Answer

from the equation

xf player = x0+v0*t+1/2at^2 = 0+0+1/2*0.3t^2

for opponant player

xf = 8+4t+0

simplify this equation

0.15t^2 = 8+4t

solving this t = 28.54 sec

xf = 1/2*0.3*28.54^2 = 122.2 m
