Two ice pucks (one orange and one blue) of equal mass are involved in a perfectly elastic glancing collision as shown in the figure below. The orange puck is initially moving to the right at voi = 7.85 m/s, strikes the initially stationary blue puck, and moves off in a direction that makes an angle of = 35.0° with the horizontal axis while the blue puck makes an angle of = 55.0° with this axis as in figure (b). Note that for an elastic collision of two equal masses, the separation angle + = 90.0°. Determine the speed of each puck after the collision.

Horizontal components
m*7.85m/s + 0 = m*u*cos35º + m*v*cos(-55º)
7.85 m/s = 0.8191*u + 0.5735*v
where u and v are the velocity of the orange puck and blue puck respectively
vertical components
0 = m*u*sin35º + m*v*sin(-55º)
0.8191v = 0.5735u
v = 0.7*u
put this value in horizontal eq.
7.85 m/s = 0.8191*u + 0.5735*0.7*u
7.85 m/s = 0.8191*u + 0.40145*u
7.85 m/s = 1.22055*u
u = vof = 6.43 m/s
v = 6.43m/s * 0.7 = 4.5 m/s
vbf = 4.5 m/s
