Question

3. A transformer consists of a solenoid S of 100 turns and a solenoid S2 of 200 turns. An AC generator (of fixed Vrms and frequency) and a resistor are connected to the transformer in the following two ways: (i) The generator is connected to Si and the resistor is connected to S2 (ii) The resistor is connected to S and the generator is connected to S2 Compare the current running through the resistor in (i) and (a) twice as much current in (i) than (ii) (b) twice as much current ini than (i) (c) four times as much current in (i) than (ii) (d) four times as much current in ) than (i) (e) same current in (i) and (ii)

Explanation / Answer

case1) resistor connected to S2 side

N1 = 100 , N2 = 200

N2/N1 = i1/i2

=> i1/i2 = 2

=> i2 = 2*i1

case2) resistor is connected to S1 side

here i2 is the resistor current

=> N2/N1 = i1/i2

=> 100/200 = i1/i2

=> i2 = 2*i1

OPTION (e) same current current in (i)and (ii)
