Question
Write out a “Claim-Evidence-Reasoning” based summary explaining a conclusion for each student’s data set.
Claim should state whether the hypothesis is correct or not. The Evidence is the data that they are using to support their claim. Reasoning as to why this evidence supports theirr claim should be clearly stated. (Write out the answers, a CER based summary for each scenario, A, B and C
A. Theodor G. determined experimentally that the magnitude of his tension force was 0.15 with a fractional uncertainty of 6.7%. He also determined experimentally that the magnitude of the weight of the small mass was 0.29 with a fractional uncertainty of 10.2%.
B. Jo M. determined experimentally that the magnitude of her tension force was 0.47 with a fractional uncertainty of 4.3%. She also determined experimentally that the magnitude of the weight of the small mass was 0.49 with a fractional uncertainty of 6.4%.
C. AlbertE.determinedexperimentallythatthemagnitudeofhistensionforcewas 0.66 with a fractional uncertainty of 13.6%. He also determined experimentally that the magnitude of the weight of the small mass was 0.78 with a fractional uncertainty of 9.0%.
PLEASE BE CLEAR. Thank you
Explanation / Answer
It seems like this is an experiment based question.
Theodor G.
As we know, Fractional Uncertainity = Uncertainity in reading / value of reading.
it means uncertainity in TENSION = value of reading * fractional uncertainity (6.7 % = 6.7/100 = 0.067)
= 0.15 * 0.067
= 0.01005 N.
Similarly, Uncertainity in weight = 0.29 * 0.102
= 0.02958 N
For Jo M .
uncertainity in TENSION = 0.47 * 0.043 = 0.02021 N
Uncertainity in weight = 0.49 * 0.064 = 0.03136 N
For Albert E.
uncertainity in TENSION = 0.66 * 0.136 = 0.08976 N
Uncertainity in weight = 0.78 * 0.09 = 0.0702 N
Based on above calculations, you can clearly tell who is true about readings with the evidence and who is uncertain about reading. The one who has lowest uncertainity in readings is the one who is correct.
