Question
Filling Blanks (I point each) 16. Simple pendulum and mechanical energy conservation. A simple pendulum as shown in the following figure oscillates back and forth. Use the letter designations in the figure to identify the pendulum's positions) for the following conditions. (There may be more than one answer. Consider the pendulum to be ideal with no energy losses.) (a) Position(s) of instantaneous rest (b) Position(s) of minimum speed (c) Position(s) of maximum E (d) Position(s) of maximum Ep (e) Position(s) of minimum E (t) Position(s) of minimum Ep (g) Position(s) after which Ek begins to increase (h) Position(s) after which Ep begins to increase maximum i) Position(s) after which Ex begins to decrease G) Position(s) after which Ep begins to decrease h=0Explanation / Answer
In this question the pendulum will motion as Simple Harmonic Motion(SHM) so according to SHM-
A)-
Position of instantaneous rest will be at both edge points because at there bob velocity will be zero. so pendulum feel intant rest situation. (A&E)
B)-
Min. speed of bob will be equal to zero and that will occur only at the both edge points.(A&E)
C)-
Max KE will obtain at middle point (Where h=0) because at here velocity become maximum.(only C)
D)-
Max Pe will obtain at both edge points (Where h=maximum height) because at here velocity become zero.(A&E)
E)-
When Max KE occur then there PE will be zero and that is the min value of PE.(only C)
F)-
When Max PE occur then there KE will be zero and that is the min value of KE.(A&E)
G)-
Position after which Ek begins to increase are when bob will go E to C it will increase and when bob will go A to C it will also increase.
H)-
Position after which Ep begins to increase are when bob will go C to E it will increase and when bob will go C to A it will also increase.
I)-
Position after which Ek begins to decrease are when bob will go C to E it will decrease and when bob will go C to A it will also decrease.
J)-
Position after which Ep begins to decrease are when bob will go E to C it will decrease and when bob will go A to C it will also decrease.
