OUTPUT OSCLLATOR REFERE NCE PONT 2 DETECTOR 10. In the circuit illustrated, which of the following factors determines the accuracy of the output frequency? A. The accuracy of the divider B. The accuracy of the reference signal C. The stability of the VCO D. The stability of the phase detector Use this illustration to answer the following question OUTPUT VOLTAGE CONTROLLED OSCILLATOR POINT 4 DNIVIDE-BY REFERENCE SIGNALPHASE POINT 2 DETECTOR POINT 3 11. Look at the schematic diagram shown. This circuit diagram represents a/an A. full-wave rectifier B. Wein bridge oscillator C. audio amplifier. D. frequency synthesizer. 12. To recover audio from a received single sideband signal, the receiver must A. have an extremely narrow bandwidth. B. contain a balanced modulator. C. reinsert the missing carrier. D. have several stages of frequency multiplication.

Explanation / Answer

10. Option B - The accuracy of the reference signal

11.Option D - Frequency Synthesizer

Explanation (for 10 &11): The Given Circuit is a Phase locked Loop (PLL) frequency synthesizer. This constitutes of 4 important components.

1.Reference signal 2. Phase Detector 3.Voltage Controlled Oscillator(VCO) 4. Divide by circuit

Phase detector- It generates a voltage proportional to difference in phases of input signals. It's output is constant when both its inputs are of same frequency. Divide by circuit is employed to make this frequency synthesizer programmable, for eg: to make it multiples of the frequency (n*f) generated (divide by n). VCO generates a frequency depending upon it's input voltage. This voltage comes from Phase detector. The whole circuit stability and accuracy depends on the stability and accuracy of the reference signal. That is why usually these circuits employ Crystall oscillators which are capable of generating stable signals..

12.Option - B,C

To Recover an Auido from a received Single Sideband signal, the receiver must have a Balanced Modulator and it should reinsert the missing carrier. The idea of SSB is to transmit only one sideband and recover information. In order to demodulate, the suppressed carrier should be reinserted using a Balanced(Product) modulator. After this, to recover the message signal we need an appropriate filter.
