Deficiency of carbohydrates in diet. An infant might have suffered from hypoglycemia , a condition caused due to deficiency of glucose which would have resulted in this condition.

Another reason could be deficiency of protiens.

Helpful referred for the child can be to have diet rich in protiens along with an adequate supply of carbohydrates.
