Question
A raw fish fillet has a composition of 20% solid,10% oil, and 70% moisture. The fish fillet is cooked. During thecooking process half the oil is driven off. If the final (cooked)moisture percentage is 50, what is the cooked weight of a filletwhose weight was 1 pound (454 grams)?
1 pound = 454 grams
What I have so far is:
20% solidinitial 5% oil final
10% oilinitial 50% moisture final
70% moisture initial
this is pretty much basic algebra or basicphysics but it's been a while since i 've done this so i don'tremember the formulas or how set the problems up to solve them so ineed some help.
Explanation / Answer
initial values solid oil moisture 9.08gram 4.54gram 440.38g after cooking 9.09gram 2.27g(half) let this be x cooked weight =11.35+x as per the problem the final (cooked) moisture percentage is 50, so 2x=11.35+x solving x=11.35gram so cooked weight=22.70gram=22.7/454=0.05pound
