Role of public health Surveillance in Enhancing public health surveillance

Public health surveillance is benefitted from the infromatics analyses and solutions. Public helath informatics refers to a systematic application of computer scinece and technology to public health practices, education and research field.

The informatics perspective helps in improving each of the seven ongoing elements of public helath surveillance system. Examples are as follows:

Findings: Public health surveillance requires attention to technology and to the specific needs of the public health community. These systems manages data that are very high in volume, heterogeneous in nature, and distributed widely, which is a difficult task. In addition, data-quality concerns also exist, occurring in both new and older legacy systems. Data from many information systems might not be shared easily or exchanged, as that might not have been a requirement of the system at the time of its development. Changing these systems in an environment of limited funding and time presents barriers. Also, laws and regulations that preserve different data collection and sharing rules, privacy and security concerns, acts as barriers to sharing and collaboration.
