Question
Explain what is different about a “positive displacement” flowmeter Question 2 Skim the "Continuous Fluid Flow Measurement" chapter in your Lessons in Industrial Instrumentation textbook and the class notes to specifically answer these questions: Positive displacement flowmeters have moving parts inside to measure the passage of fluids through them, yet they are different from other flowmeter types using moving parts (such as turbine meters). Explain what is different about a "positive displacement" flowmeter.Explanation / Answer
Answer.
(1) Positive Displacement Flow meters are used to measure volume of the fluid directly by passing through it where as other methods like differential pressure flow methods are indirect measurements.
(2) It is used for measurement of high viscous fluid with low flow rate rather than others i.e.,for more than 10cgs viscosity where as Turbine flows are meters for less than 10cgs.
(3) It has high turn down ratio.
(4) Requirement of back pressure is not so critical in this flow meters where as turbine meters require it conform.
(5)There is mechanical movement of measuring device which directly give the flow measurement and there is fixed amount of Entrap ed and released flow of sample fluid.
(6) This type of meters can be connected to spotless, sterile and destructive fluids, for example, water and nourishment s and a few gases.
