Because the only places you get gaps are where the destructive (notdeconstructive) interference completely, or almost completely,cancels out the wave. You get very bright lines at the constructiveinterference points, but between the destructive and constructiveinterference points, you still have light falling, albeit at lesserlevels. So on the picture you showed, the constructive andintermediate points all show up as a solid band, while thedestructive areas look like small gaps.
