Question
A gas is enclosed in a container fitted with a piston ofcross-sectional area 0.150 m^2. The pressure of the gas ismaintained at 6000 Pa as the piston moves inward 20.0 cm.A: Calculate the work done by the gas.
B: If the internal energy of the gas decreases by 8.0 J, find theamount of heat removed from the system by heat during thecompression.
My question is for part B. How are they getting Q = + 188 J? Ithought if heat is removed from the system Q would be negative? Also, why are they adding 180 to 8? Isn't delta U a negative 8? Idon't understand how they got the answer.
Explanation / Answer
The negative sign is just an indication that heat is being removedfrom the system
