Question
You have to move a 300 kg box which is resting on a wooden floor (coefficient of friction = 0.5). There are 2 ways to get it to start moving:1) Push down on the box at an angle of 30 degrees from the horizontal
2) Pull up on the box at an angle 30 degrees from the horizontal
Which method should you choose, or are they equal? Provide explanation.
I think that pushing down on the box makes much more sense b/c if you pull up at a 30 degree angle you are essentially having to lift the box, which is much more difficult. I am looking for a more scientific answer.
