A tennis ball is dropped from a height of 190 cm above theground. It has a mass of .0572 kg. How can I figure out the speedof the ball just before it hits the ground, and the speed of theball just before it leaves the ground, using the conservation ofenergy? Explanation / Answer

Mass of ball m = 0.0572 kg

Initial velocity of ball u = 0

Height h = 190 cm = 1.9 m

Total energy at top = total energy at bottom

( 1/ 2) mu ^ 2 + mgh = ( 1/ 2) mv ^ 2 + mg( 0 )  Since height at bottom = 0

                0 + mgh = ( 1/ 2) mv ^ 2

From this required speed v = [ 2gh ]

                                             = 6.102 m / s
