Question
A solenoid has a 3cm x 3cm square cross section, 1800 turns, alength of a 75cm and carries a 12A current. What is the maximum torque on this solenoid if it sites in auniform magnetic field of 5 mT? I found the magnetic field inside this solenoid to be .0362mT. Will rate LIFESAVER! A solenoid has a 3cm x 3cm square cross section, 1800 turns, alength of a 75cm and carries a 12A current. mag moment of solenoid = N I A = 1800* 12 * 0.03*0.03 = 19.44 . And max torque on any coil is magnetic moment *external mag field so... . maxtorque = 19.44 * 0.005 = 0.0972 N-m . (you actually dont need the B field created by the solenoidfor this one...) .Related Questions
