Question

Hi, I am currently trying to do a physics homework problem. Here's the link to the solution: https://www.chegg.com/homework-help/Physics-Volume-2-5th-edition-chapter-25-problem-15E-solution-9780471401940

My question is why is the ring equation valid for q0 on the -z and +z axis, while the disk equation is not valid for q0 on the -z and +z axis. My first thought is that you can perform the calculation and nothing would change, same for the disk. But in the solution, it says "By reversing the sign of z reverses the sign of Fz" for the disk. I sort of understand this statement, but wouldn't this be true for the ring also? Also, how did they come to conclusion to to fix the equation by setting 1 = z / sqrt(z)? Thanks for any help and this is my first time submitting a question, let me know if I can improve my wording or anything.

Explanation / Answer

i think in ring charge will be on surface due to shape but in disk it will be distriuted equally internally also due to shape so that is. but not sure.
