Question
A protoype rocket launcher always launches rockets at a speed of 80 m/s, but can be aimed at different angles with respect to the ground. Launcher A is aimed at angle of 39o, B is aimed at 10o, C is at 51o, D is at 80o, and E is at 20o. Rank these launchers from smallest to largest distance reached, with no spaces. For ties, list answers alphabetically. For example: D<A=C<B=E
So far I believe I need to use the equation R=(Vo)^2 X Sin 2 (angle) / g but when I put this into my calculator I get a very large number and not degrees. Not sure if I am doing this right or wrong but please let me know!?
Explanation / Answer
R = v0^2 sin(2 theta) / g
for A: sin(2 theta) = sin78 = 0.978
for B: sin(2 x 10) = sin20 = 0.342
for C: sin(2 x 51) = 0.978
for D: sin(2 x 80) = 0.342
for E: sin(2 x 20) = 0.643
B = D < E < A = C
