Question

The tallest man to have ever lived was Robert Waldow. He was last measured in 1940 to be 2.72 meters tall (8 feet 11 inches). Determine the speed that a quarter would have reached bedor contact with the ground if dropped from rest from the top of his head. Ignor air resistance The tallest man to have ever lived was Robert Waldow. He was last measured in 1940 to be 2.72 meters tall (8 feet 11 inches). Determine the speed that a quarter would have reached bedor contact with the ground if dropped from rest from the top of his head. Ignor air resistance

Explanation / Answer

Use v2 = u2 + 2aH

here, Height H = 2.72m

a = acceleration due to gravity = g = 9.8 m/s2

and u = initial velocity = 0 m/s

therefore, v = [0 + 2(9.8)(2.72)]1/2 = 7.3015 m/s

this will be the speed of the quarter just before hitting the ground if dropped from Waldow's head.
