AP Physics 1 cbaplot 10 Part 2 Loop the Loop a block of mass 50.0 kg The car is released from rest at a height h 51.0 m above the ground and slides along a frictionless track. The car encounters loop of radius R 170 m at ground level, as shown. As you will leam in the course of this problem, the initial height 51.0 m is great enough so that the car never enntact with the track of 1 4 of 11 Part A Find the kinetic energy Kof the car at the top of the loop. Express your answer numerically, in joules. Hinta My Answers Give Up Review Part Part B Find the minimum initial height haun at which the car can be released that stil

Explanation / Answer

a)

at the top of the loop the height actually descended effectively from the initial point=h-2r
velocity due to descent of h-2r=sqrt(2g(h-2r))
so kinetic energy =1/2*m*2g(h-2r)=mg(h-2r)

h=51m r=17m

=50*9.8*(51-2*17)

=50*9.8*17

=8330J

b)

net radial force on the car at the top of the loop=N+mg
we know that if the body is in contact with the loop then N>0(N is the normal reaction exerted by the loop)
N+mg=mv^2/r (using the concept of centripetal force)
so m*2g(h-2r)/r>mg
so h-2r>r/2
so h>5r/2
so the minimum initial height is 5r/2

minimum height=5*17/2=42.5m
