Question
A point charge of-1 C is located at the origin. A second point charge of 8 c is at x-1 m, y: 0.5 m. The electron will lie on the line joining the two points.
since the line passes through origin,
y = kx
also,(1,0.5) lies on the lines,
k=0.5
so,
let the co-ordinate of the line be (x,y).so,
from above we get y = 0.5x
and balancing the forces,
kq1e/r1^2 + kq2r/r2^2 = 0
or q1/r1^2 + q2/r2^2 = 0
or -1/(x^2+y^2) + 8/((x-1)^2+(y-0.5)^2) = 0
solving the above two equations, we get
x = -0.5469
y=2x = -1.0938
