Question
The equipotential surfaces surrounding a point charge are concentric spheres with the charge at the center. If the electric potential of two such eqipotential surfaces that surround a point charge 1.63e-8 C are 185 V and 80.0 V , what is the distance between these two surfaces? (In m) The equipotential surfaces surrounding a point charge are concentric spheres with the charge at the center. If the electric potential of two such eqipotential surfaces that surround a point charge 1.63e-8 C are 185 V and 80.0 V , what is the distance between these two surfaces? (In m)Explanation / Answer
let the distance of the first sureface from the charge be x and that of the second charge be y.so,
kq/x=V1
or 9*10^9*1.63*10^-8/x=185
or x=0.793 m
kq/y=77
or 9*10^9*1.63*10^-8/y=80
or y=1.83375 m
so distance=y-x
=1.83375-0.793
=1.04075 m
