Question
A pair of charged conducting plates produces a uniform field of 12.000 N/C, directed to the right, between the plates. The separation of the plates is 40 num. An electron is projected from plate A. directly to word plate B, with an initial velocity of v_0 = 1.0 times 10^7 m/s, as shown in the figure (e = 1.60 times 10^-19 C, c_0 = 8.85 times 10^-12 C^2/N middot m^2,m_d = 9.11 times 10^-21 kg) The distance of closest approach of the electron to place B is nearrest to 16mm. 20mm. 24mm. 28mm. 32mm.Explanation / Answer
answer is C 24 mm
i tried by both enery conservation and by kinematic getting the same answer
1) using energy conservation
mv^2/2 = q*E*d
d = mv^2/2qE
d = 24 mm
