Question
You connect a circuit to determine the resistance of a test conductor. Using a 1.5 V battery, you get readings of 1.5V and 6.4 mA. You replace the 1.5 V battery in this circuit with a 9 V battery and obtain readings of 9.0 V and 55 mA.
I'm then asked if the conductor is ohmic, non ohimc, not enough information, only ohmic at higher voltages....
I would say the test conductor appears to be Ohmic?? Is this correct? When I do a graph for the results the line is linear. Or is it only safe to say it is probaly Ohmic at higher voltages because there aren't enough measurments?
thanks
Explanation / Answer
V = I*R
In case 1,
1.5 = (6.4 * 10^-3) * R
R = 234.4
In Case 2,
9.0 = 55*10^-3 * R
R = 163.6
So we can see the values does not match, so for sure it does not follow ohm's law. I would go with Non Ohmic as my answer !!
