Question

Two circular loops of wire with small bulbs in them are sitting beside two long straight current -carrying wires. In both cases, these loops are the same distance away from the current-carrying wires The wire loops, bulbs, and long straight wires are identical for the two situations but the currents in the straight wires are different. A graph of current in each wire as a function of time is shown at the right below For each labeled time t_1-t_2. state whether the brightness of bulb A b greater than, kit than, or equal to the brightness of bulb B. If either bulb b not lit at all at that time, state that explicitly. Time t_1 Time t^2 Time t_3 time t_4: Time t_5. Find the direction of current flow in the bulbs during each time internal.

Explanation / Answer

From times 1 to 4 both currents are positive (counterclock wise) current in A is larger than current in B so A is brighter than B in does intervals. At t5 the current in A is almos zero (it could be taken as if the bulb is not lit) and the current in B has now changed direction(clockwise) but since the current is bigger, bulb B is brighter than A
