Question
A new Zealand Wood Pigeon traveling at 1.5 m s -1 due west has an elastic collision with an airbus a380 aeroplane. fortunately for the pigeon, the a380 was only traveling at 0.1 m s -1 in an easterly direction at the time. with what speed is the pigeon traveling after the collision?
The pigeon in the above problem has a totally inelastic collision with a cat. if, just before the collision, the 0.65 kg pigeon was traveling 2.0 m s -1 north and the 3.0 kg cat was traveling 5.5 m s -1 south, what is the velocity of the ball of fur and feathers just after the collision?
Please show your work! :))) Thank you!
Explanation / Answer
inelastic collision
linear momentum remain conserve
Vp = 2m/s
Vc = -5.5 m/s
0.65 * 2 - 3 * 5.5 = (0.65 + 3 ) *v
v = -4.16 m/s ( after collision thet are going in south direction )
