Question
A sphere of radius r is initially stationary at the top of a slide of height h as shown. The puck is pushed over the edge of the slide and begins to descend. From the top of the slide to the very bottom of the slide the surface is frictionless. From that point to the top of the slide on the opposite side the surface is rough with a coefficient of kinetic friction of 0.15. How far up the slide will the sphere travel? If the sphere is replaced with a solid cyliner how far up the slide will the cylinder travel.
Explanation / Answer
If friction is large enough to prevent sliding on second surface, hight will be same for both objects and will be equal to h same as height it drops. Because there is no energy loss in rolling and energy will be conserved.
